Established in March 2000 in Houston, IFE DESCENDANTS UNION USA, INC. is a tax-exempt progressive, fast-growing, non-profit and non-political organization formed by sons and daughters of Ile-Ife based in Houston, Texas. With solid, down-to-the-earth objectives, I.D.U. aspires to help develop Ile-Ife technologically, socially, and economically; cater for its members, preserve the rich and diverse culture of Ile-Ife, and improve the image of Ile-Ife in the global arena. Toward this end, the organization has, in its short life span, undertaken several projects at chapter, national and international levels.
In January 2006, I.D.U. launched a Health supplies initiative by shipping and donating several medical equipments and supplies, to major hospitals in the city of Ile-Ife.
I.D.U. highlights some of the most pertinent developments important for the growth of the ancient city of Ile-Ife. Amongst others, our next project is the I.D.U. Scholarship Initiative Program under which the organization will sponsor one student from Ile-Ife to pursue a 4-year degree program in science, medicine, and engineering and vocational education in selected Nigerian universities.
Other major activities of I.D.U. include conference, symposia, and seminars to educate Americans and others about the positives sides of Ile-Ife, as well as the acquisition of supplies and materials for donation to various Nigerian schools, hospitals and other non-profit, charitable agencies.
As an effective vehicle for enhancing social relationships, I.D.U. is there when ever any of its registered active members marries, gives birth to a baby, graduates, arrives or departs, looses a family member or even when in need. I.D.U. continues to play visible and crucial roles in improving the welfare of the U.S. communities in which our members live and work. Similarly, we continue to work with other groups in the U.S. and around the world towards establishing a greater understanding and dialogue for the benefit of our city, Ile-Ife, and in crisis situations. |
